DescriptionThe IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 is a storage appliance family that consists of an engine, optional external storage devices, and associated optional features. The 5194 Model 25T is a tower-based engine with HDD storage (ordered as features) that can also be ordered (or modified in the field) for mounting in a 19-inch rack. The 5194-25T storage capacity can be extended by attaching one to three 5194 Model EXP Storage Expansion Units or a 3-disk expansion in the Model 25T and one or two external 5194 Model EXPs. Maximum storage when using the 25T 3-Disk Expansion is 5.431 TB. When using three IBM 5194 NAS Storage Unit Model EXPs it is 7.046 TB. The 5194 Model 25T is designed to be a high-throughput, two-way SMP-capable appliance with excellent scalability. It incorporates a powerful 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon processor with 512 KB advanced transfer L2 cache. The advanced transfer cache is the result of a "backside bus" that is 256 bits wide. The quad-wide cache line can transfer four 64-bit cache line segments at one time to deliver full-speed capability. A second 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon processor may be installed as an option. When both processors are present, they share the workload and are load-balanced. High-speed, DDR PC2100 ECC memory is optimized for 100 MHz x 4 data transfers per cycle processor-to-memory subsystem performance. The 5194 Model 25T uses the Champion CMIC-LE memory and I/O controller, designed to maximize throughput from processors to memory. The 5194 Model 25T comes standard with redundant, hot-swappable, load-sharing power supplies. Standard IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 Model 25T Model 25T Configuration

Note that the LAN connection on the engine planar board (non-adapter) is a 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection and that it can not participate with the optional Ethernet adapters in adapter fault tolerance, adapter load balancing, and Fast Etherchannel (FEC) support. The optional adapters available for the 5194 Model 25T do provide these functions. Additional information on teaming considerations can be found in the User's Reference and the Technical Description section. The 5194 Model 25T must be ordered with a minimum of three HDDs. One to three more HDDs can be added to the base machine. In addition, three HDDs may be added optionally when the 25T 3-Disk Expansion is installed. The maximum total number of drives in the 5194 Model 25T is nine. HDD sizes may not be mixed on the initial order. For installed systems, the sizes may be mixed (resulting from MES orders), however, it should be noted that HDD sizes should not be mixed within a RAID array. A loss of storage capacity will result if they are mixed. Additional features include:
The 5194 Model 25T subsystems are tuned to provide solid system throughput from processor, to memory, to bus, to disk-intensive I/O. These features, combined with SMP capability, make the IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 an excellent choice for NAS. Refer to the Technical Description section for information about the optional features available for the 5194 Model 25T. Technical DescriptionHardware Technical Description — Special Features5194 Model 25T Memory Features: Designed to enhance performance, memory features are available for the 5194 Model 25T to increase the standard memory size. The standard memory size of the 5194 Model 25T is 512 MB which occupies two of the six memory slots. Additional memory may be ordered either on the initial order, or to upgrade an already installed system. The maximum supported memory configuration of the 5194 Model 25T is 4.5 GB (512 MB standard plus 4 GB optional). Adding additional memory to an already installed 5194 Model 25T may require removal of installed memory to allow installation of the additional memory. The 5194 Model 25T has six memory slots which use double data rate (DDR) synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) with RDIMM connectors. Two-way interleaving is used, so memory must be installed in pairs of the same size. Only 256 MB, 512 MB and 1GB DIMMs are used. These are Error Correcting (ECC) and support chip kill, which keeps the system working even with one failed SDRAM module. These DIMM sizes yield memory increments of 512 MB, 1 GB, and 2 GB, which can be used in any combination not to exceed 4.5 GB. 512 MB Memory Upgrade (#0300): This feature adds 512 MB of memory for the 5194 Model 25T. 1 GB Memory Upgrade (#0301): This feature adds 1 GB of memory for the 5194 Model 25T. 2 GB Memory Upgrade (#0302): This feature adds 2 GB of memory for the 5194 Model 25T. 5194 Model 25T HDD Considerations: Initial orders of HDDs for the 5194 Model 25T must include only one size of HDD — the sizes may not be mixed. A minimum of three HDDs must be included in the initial order. A maximum of six HDDs may be ordered unless feature number 3151 is included in the order. If feature number 3151 is included, the maximum number of HDDS that may be ordered is nine. The 25T 3-Disk Expansion (#3151) must be either unpopulated or fully populated with HDDs. Thus, initial orders of the Model 25T must include an order of 3, 4, 5, or 6 HDDs unless feature number 3151 is included, in which case the number of HDDS ordered can be 3, 4, 5, 6, or 9. HDDs ordered as spares (#3126 and #3130) are not included in the maximums described above. MES HDD orders (for an already installed 5194 Model 25T) may be for different size HDDs than those already installed. Note that all HDDs within a RAID array should be of the same size. For the 5194 Model EXP, a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 14 HDDs may be ordered. Initial orders of the Model EXP must include HDDs of only one size — sizes may not be mixed. MES orders may be for HDD of another size but all HDD within a RAID array should be the same size. If HDD sizes are mixed within a RAID array, the amount of storage used on each HDD in the array will not exceed that of the smallest HDD in the array. Thus, if one 73.4 GB HDD is mixed with 146.8 GB HDDs in a RAID array, all HDDs will be used as if they were 73.4 GB drives. 73.4 GB 10K Ultra160 SCSI Hot-Swap SL HDD (#3124): This feature may be used to populate the HDD bays of the 5194 Model 25T, the 25T 3-Disk Expansion, and the 5194 Model EXP. This feature must be used for initial orders of the 5194 Model 25T unless feature number 3128 is used. For the 5194-EXP, this feature must be used for initial orders unless feature number 3121 or 3128 is used. Drive sizes may not be mixed within a machine on the initial order. The maximum that may be ordered for 5194-EXP is 14 HDD. This feature is plant install only.
73.4 GB 10K Ultra160 SCSI Hot-Swap SL HDD (#3125): This feature is the same as feature number 3124 (above) except that it must be used only to order HDDs to increase the storage of already installed NAS 200 machines (MES). 73.4 GB 10K Ultra160 SCSI Hot-Swap SL HDD (#3126): This feature is the same as feature number 3124 (above) except that it must be used only to order HDDs for use as spare parts in the event of a HDD failure. 146.8 GB 10K Ultra160 SCSI Hot-swap SL HDD (#3128): This feature may be used to populate the HDD bays of the 5194 Model 25T, the 25T 3-Disk Expansion, and the 5194 Model EXP. This feature must be used for initial orders of the 5194 Model 25T unless feature number 3124 is ordered. For the 5194-EXP, this feature must be used for initial orders unless feature number 3121 or 3124 is ordered. Drive sizes may not be mixed within a machine on the initial order. This feature is plant install only.
146.8 GB 10K Ultra160 SCSI Hot-swap SL HDD (#3129): This feature is the same as feature number 3128 (above) except that it must be used only to order HDDs to increase the storage of already installed NAS 200 machines (MES). 146.8 GB 10K Ultra160 SCSI Hot-swap SL HDD (#3130): This feature is the same as feature number 3128 (above) except that it must be used only to order HDDs for use as spare parts in the event of a HDD failure. IBM TotalStorage™ NAS 200 Model 25T Adapter Considerations: The number of PCI slots available on the Model 25T is six. PCI slot 1 is reserved for the Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA) adapter. All other adapters use the remaining five slots. The maximum number of each of the optional features supported by the 5194 Model 25T is:
The total of these listed features must not exceed six. Note: The RAID controllers are limited to the following combinations.
LAN connections: The 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, which is standard on the back of the 5194 Model 25T provides connectivity to the Ethernet LAN. This "on-board" Ethernet port can not participate in any teaming with any of the optional Ethernet adapters. No additional Ethernet adapter is required but may be optionally added to the configuration to provide additional connectivity, redundancy, and/or flexibility. Ethernet Teaming Considerations Teaming/load balancing is a method of combining Ethernet ports using a single IP address (a single logical network connection). The IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 Model 25T offers a choice of four PCI Ethernet adapters. These adapters, with certain limitations can help implement teaming on the Model 25T. Refer to product publication IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 User's Reference , GA27-4323, for details. Ethernet Adapters Available For The Model 25T
Valid teaming combinations are:
Teaming Adapters #3302 and #3303 The Gigabit Ethernet SX Adapter (#3302) and the 10/100/1000 Copper Ethernet Adapter (#3303) can implement teaming using the following modes:
Teaming Adapters Feature Numbers 3304 and 3305 The 4-port 10/100 Ethernet Adapter (#3304) and the 10/100/1000 Accelerated Ethernet Adapter (#3305) use Session-Layer Interface Card (SLIC) technology which incorporates hardware assist for TCP processing. This acceleration will only be supported simultaneously with teaming if all the ports are on the same adapter. These adapters can implement teaming/load balancing using the following modes:
Gigabit Ethernet SX Adapter (#3302): This feature is designed to provide 1000BASE-SX connectivity to a Gigabit Ethernet network over a 50 or 62.5 micron multimode fiber optic link attached to its duplex SC connector. It is designed to be compliant with IEEE 802.3z Ethernet and PCI 2.1 standards, supporting compatibility with existing Ethernet installations. 10/100/1000 Copper Ethernet Adapter (#3303): The 10/100/1000 Copper Ethernet Adapter provides connectivity for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet over Category 5 (or better) copper cable. With support for all three speeds, you can migrate your network to higher speeds without any change to your Cat 5 wiring infrastructure. 1000Base-T requires four Cat 5 UTP pairs. The 1000Base-T standard (IEEE 802.3ab) supports cable lengths of 100 meters or less. It provides half-duplex and full-duplex operation at all three speeds. Auto-negotiation of speed and duplex mode facilitates the use of the adapter in shared or switched environments. Bus mastering architecture is designed to provide outstanding performance with low server CPU utilization. 4-port 10/100 Ethernet Adapter (#3304): The 4-port 10/100 Ethernet Adapter is designed to provide four Ethernet RJ-45 connections for 10Base-T or 100Base-TX support. This adapter is "accelerated" — it provides much of the TCP-IP processing, reducing the processor load on the engine. Its 64-bit PCI 2.2 bus mastering architecture is designed for outstanding performance with low CPU utilization. It provides half- and full-duplex operation at both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps. Auto-negotiation of speed and duplex mode facilitates the use of the adapter in shared or switched environments running at either speed. Fast Ethernet requires Category 5 UTP cable; 10Base-T may use any of Category 3, 4, or 5 cable. 10/100/1000 Accelerated Ethernet Adapter (#3305): This adapter is similar to the 10/100/1000 Copper Ethernet Adapter, but is "accelerated" in that it offloads much of the TCP/IP processing from the engine. A maximum of two of this adapter may be installed in the 5194 Model 25T. RAID Controller Considerations: At least one RAID controller must be installed in the 5194 Model 25T. One channel is always required to support the HDD in the six bays of the 5194 engine. If the 25T 3-Disk Expansion and/or IBM 5194 NAS Storage Unit Model EXPs are included in the configuration, additional channels are required — one channel for each of the expansions. The maximum storage configuration supported by the 5194 Model 25T is six HDDs in the hot-swap bays of the engine, two attached IBM 5194 NAS Storage Unit Model EXPs, and either a third 5194-EXP or the 25T 3-Disk Expansion. A configuration with the 25T 3-Disk Expansion installed yields a maximum storage capacity of 5.4 TB; the configuration maximum using three 5194-EXPs is 7 TB. The following combinations of RAID controllers all support the six HDD bays in the engine. In addition, each combination also supports:
The 5194 Model 25T includes a standard SCSI port on the back of the engine. This SCSI port may, in some configurations, be used to attach an external LVD tape backup drive. This port is also used, in some configurations, as a RAID channel. When used as a RAID channel, it is not available for tape backup. In that case, a SCSI or Fibre Channel adapter must be used to support tape backup. PCI ServeRAID 4Mx Adapter (#3901): The PCI ServeRAID 4Mx Adapter, with its second RAID channel, supports the 25T 3-Disk Expansion or a 5194 Model EXP on the 5194 Model 25T. (The other RAID channel is connected internally to the internal HDDs.) In addition, this RAID adapter has a 64 MB battery-backed cache. The battery-backed cache is designed to contribute to higher performance of the NAS 200. Two of this feature may be installed; the second is used to support two additional 5194-EXPs or a 25T 3-Disk Expansion and one 5194-EXP. The PCI ServeRAID 4Mx Adapter supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 00, 10, 50, 1E, 5E, and 1E0. PCI ServeRAID 4H Adapter (#3902): The PCI ServeRAID 4H Adapter is designed to be a highly reliable, high-performance controller for large data storage environments. It is designed to provide the highest performance of the three RAID controllers available for the 5194 Model 25T. It provides:
With four RAID channels, this adapter will support three 5194-EXPs in addition to the six HDDs in the engine. Optionally, it supports two 5194-EXPs and the 25T 3-Disk Expansion. The PCI ServeRAID 4H Adapter supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 00, 10, 50, 1E, 5E, and 1E0. PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter (#3903): The PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter supports the HDDs in the six bays of the engine as well as either the 25T 3-Disk Expansion, or one IBM 5194 NAS Storage Unit Model EXP. It may optionally be paired with one PCI ServeRAID 4Mx Adapter. It provides 128 MB battery-backed cache and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 00, 10, 50, 1E, and 1E0. This feature is not field installable; it may not be ordered as an MES. Note: If the PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter is installed, the SCSI connector on the back of the 5194 Model 25T will always be used as a RAID channel. Therefore, the SCSI connector is not available for connecting to an external SCSI tape drive when the PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter is installed. Tape Backup: Only external tape drives are supported by the 5194 Model 25T. Either LVD SCSI or Fibre Channel tape drives may be used. For any configuration that does not have a PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter installed, a SCSI port is available on the back of the 5194 Model 25T that can be used to support an external LVD SCSI tape drive. If the PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter is installed, an appropriate adapter feature is required for attachment of a tape drive. PCI SCSI LVD/SE Adapter (#3702): The PCI SCSI LVD/SE Adapter is intended for support of tape backup. It is required for SCSI tape backup only if the PCI ServeRAID-5i Adapter is installed. It provides the following:
1-Port 2 Gb Fibre Channel Adapter (#3705): This feature is a 133 MHz PCI-X design with a single LC connector. Transfer rate is up to 400 MB/sec. in full duplex. This feature supports both 1 Gb and 2 Gb speeds. It is intended to support Fibre Channel tape backup. This Fibre Channel adapter uses female LC connectors. Both 50 and 62.5 micron cables are supported; the maximum length depends on the speed.
Fibre Channel cabling is not included in this feature; it must be supplied by the customer. Other 5194 Model 25T Features25T Rack Mount (#3602 and #3603): These features may be used to rack-mount the 5194 Model 25T. Feature number 3603 may only be ordered as an MES. It will be shipped as a kit to allow rack mounting of an already installed 5194 Model 25T. Feature number 3602 may only be included in the initial order of the 5194 Model 25T. When included in an initial order, the Model 25T will be shipped ready to be installed in a 19-inch rack. 25T 3-Disk Expansion (#3151): This feature provides bays for three additional HDDs to be installed in the 5194 Model 25T. The 25T 3-Disk Expansion may be ordered without any HDDs installed in anticipation of expanding storage capacity in the Model 25T at a later date. Installation of the 25T 3-Disk Expansion in the field requires the NAS system to be shut down. If the 25T 3-Disk Expansion is already installed, hard drives can be installed without interruption since the HDDs are hot pluggable. The 25T 3-Disk Expansion must either be unpopulated (no HDDs) or completely populated (three HDDs). For HDD added to the 25T 3-Disk Expansion in the field, the HDDs need not be the same size as in the base Model 25T. HDDs must be ordered separately. An initial order of the Model 25T will have HDDs installed at the plant. First, the six HDD bays of the Model 25T will be populated, then, the three HDDs will be installed in the 25T 3-Disk Expansion. Therefore, initial orders of the Model 25T may include orders for 3, 4, 5, 6, or 9 HDD — all of the same size. 2nd Processor Upgrade (#3225): This feature supports internal processing speeds of 2.4 GHz and external processing operations to memory at 100 MHz (executes 4 data transfers per cycle — quad pumped). This processor can be used to upgrade the 5194 Model 25T to a two-processor system. Field installation of this feature requires the system to be powered down. Remote Supervisor Adapter (#3821): This feature, in conjunction with the ASM processor that is integrated into the base planar board of the 5194 Model 25T, allows you to connect via LAN or modem from virtually anywhere for extensive remote management of IBM TotalStorage NAS 200. Remote connectivity flexibility with LAN capability is provided by Ethernet connection. The Remote Supervisor Adapter enables more flexible management through a Web browser interface, in addition to ANSI terminal, Telnet, IBM Director, and Netfinity Manager™. The Remote Supervisor adapter provides the host engine with the following functions in addition to remote management:
This feature must be installed in PCI slot 1. Code Preload (#4000): Provides the preloaded Operating System and application code for the IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 Model 25T. IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 Storage Unit (5194 Model EXP)This external storage unit is supported by all models of the NAS 200. It can be configured with a minimum of three and up to a maximum of 14, slim-high 10K Ultra160 SCSI HDDs, either 36.4 GB, 73.4 GB or 146.8 GB, providing a maximum total capacity of 2.055 TB per unit. HDD sizes may be mixed within the Model EXP, but not in the same RAID array. For the initial order, the drives must be all of one size. The 5194 Model EXP is designed to be rack mounted, though it need not be for Models 200, 201, or 25T. For the these models, there are tower-to-rack conversion kits which allow these models to be mounted in a rack. For the Model 200, this is feature number 3601; for Model 201 it is feature number 3621; for Model 25T it is feature number 3602 or 3603. If the Model EXP is to be used with either Model 200, 201, or 25T (rack mounted or not), it must be located within 2 meters of the 200, 201, or 25T (the length of the cable provided with Model EXP). The IBM 5194 NAS Storage Unit Model EXP contains two hot-swap, redundant power supply/fan assemblies. Potential failure-causing conditions are typically reported to the controller using Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA). Code upgrade Fixpacks are required to support attachment of the Model EXP to currently installed Models 200 and 201. For Model 201 systems shipped after June 14, 2002, the Fixpack will not be required; the upgraded code will be preloaded by IBM. Refer to Hardware Announcement 102-134 , dated May 21, 2002, for additional Fixpack information. For NAS 200 Models 200 and 201 systems, the PCI ServeRAID 4Mx Adapter (#3901) is a prerequisite for support of the 5194 Model EXP. Key features of the IBM 5194 NAS Storage Unit Model EXP:

Columbia Data Products Persistent Storage Manager (PSM) for IBM NAS Products V2.2 PSM creates multiple point-in-time persistent True Images of any or all system and data volumes. All persistent images are designed to survive system power loss or a planned or unplanned re-boot. Each instance of PSM is designed to handle 250 concurrent data images. Typically, any image can be easily managed through the Microsoft Web user interface, and accessed the same as any other active volume. For disaster recovery in case of data corruption or loss, typically any persistent image can be reverted to a prior time, which can help substantially reduce the amount of system down time. PSM is designed to:
IBM Director Agent V3.1.1 with Director Extensions The NAS 200 preloaded code contains IBM Director Agent V3.1.1. This provides the NAS 200 with a client management application for networked computers, helping centralize control of your computer systems and lower the total cost of management. The IBM Director Agent is designed to allow the user to view, monitor, and control the NAS 200 through a management application such as the IBM Director/Server. IBM Director Agent V3.1.1 is also intended to allow you to:
Because IBM Director Agent V3.1.1 uses some of the latest systems management standards, including Common Information Model (CIM), Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM), and the Extensible Markup Language (XML), management of the NAS 200 can typically be integrated with most enterprise management environments. The IBM Director/Server is designed to provide the additional management functions that can be used to aid in managing the NAS 200, such as Advanced Systems Management, Capacity Manager, Cluster Systems Management, Fibre Channel Storage, IBM Rack Manager, and ServeRAID Manager. Tivoli Storage Manager The IBM NAS 200 comes with the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Agent and Client (V4.2.2) application code pre-installed and ready to license to allow backup of the NAS 200 data to a Tivoli Storage Manager server. This backup client is designed to provide file level backup and restore functionality. Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to be a full-function application code solution that addresses the challenges of complex storage management across a distributed environment. It can help manage a broad range of data storage, recovery, and availability functions across your entire computing infrastructure, from the massive enterprise file servers in your data center to the storage peripherals throughout your organization and to the laptops in your remote offices. Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to enable organizations with large amounts of mission-critical data held on distributed heterogeneous platforms to backup and restore from up to seven different platforms, including Windows 2000, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, AIX®, OS/390®, VM, and OS/400®. For additional information on Tivoli Storage Manager, refer to the following Web site: Services for UNIX V2.2+QFE Performance is designed to be enhanced in NFS V2.0. Services for Netware V5.0 A Supplementary CD-ROM shipped with the 5194 Model 25T includes Windows Services for NetWare V5.0 (SFN5) as the means to provide interoperability within the Novell environment. SFN5 provides a complete set of new interoperability services and tools for integrating the Windows 2000 based servers into existing NetWare environments. Only Netware V5.0 Print and File services are included in the preloaded code. It is required for supporting Netware File system protocol. Since the NAS 200 emulates a Netware file server including the Netware UI, individual Netware users and/or servers (running Novell 4, 5, or 6) can access the NAS as if it were another Netware file server. Storage Manager for SAK V2.0 The preloaded code includes Storage Manager for SAK 2.0, a storage management tool that includes the following functions:
Storage Reports address disk usage, wasted storage space, file ownership, security, and administration. Reports can run interactively, scheduled on a regular basis, or run as part of a storage resource management policy when disk space utilization reaches a critical level. Directory Quotas allow the administrator to add, delete, monitor, and change disk space limits for selected directories on the NAS appliance. Directory quotas provide disk space monitoring and control in real time, and supports active and passive limits with two real-time space alarms. File Screening allows the blocking of any file type such as music file formats, graphics files, VBS viruses, and executables from writing to the NAS appliance. NAS Setup Navigator The NAS Setup Navigator provides a GUI that guides the user through the steps required to initially configure the IBM NAS products. The tasks that need to be performed are displayed in a two-level menu tree on the left side of the screen. When the user selects a task, the right side of the screen displays a brief description of that task. In many cases, the content window will also contain a description of where to get more detailed information. The basic configuration tasks described are:
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Agent The preloaded code includes a UPS agent, to receive power failure notifications from an external UPS product. A UPS unit may be added to provide emergency backup power for a specific period of time when the local power fails. This power comes from batteries housed within the UPS. During a power failure, the UPS instantly switches your server appliance to emergency battery backup power. The UPS agent enables you to control how the UPS service works on your 5194 Model 25T. The available UPS settings depend on the specific UPS hardware used with your system; you will need to configure the following information:
