GEMS SmartMedia
Training
The GEMS
SmartMedia 1.4 for Admin course provides a general overview of the
SmartMedia product, covering installation to configuration to
administration. SmartMedia is a media management product that allows many
NetWorker Servers and Storage Nodes (machines with locally attached tape
drives) can be controlled by a single console. SmartMedia also uses a SAN to
take advantage of dynamic drive sharing. In a large enterprise, SmartMedia
will control all the media, tape drives, and libraries to cut down on
administration and management. The product administers all media requests
through a central server, decreasing the time needed to manage all the media
in one or more sites. SmartMedia can also be used on a Storage Area Network
(SAN) to take advantage of existing libraries and tape drives. With this
configuration, dynamic device sharing diminishes media costs and speeds up
the backup process.
